Hitman

Hitman is a series about a bald man in a good suit walking through the world's most expensive locations and quietly rearranging who is alive in them. The recent trilogy turned that into something close to a puzzle game, and it is the best the series has ever been.

Each level is a machine. Everyone follows a schedule, every disguise unlocks a different set of doors, and every target has half a dozen deaths available if you understand the clockwork. The joy isn't the kill - it's the moment you realise the chef's uniform lets you into the kitchen at the exact minute the target orders lunch.

Agent 47 is a wonderfully strange protagonist. Absolutely no personality by design, a barcode on the back of his head, and a habit of standing still while chaos he arranged unfolds behind him.

The fibre wire and the Silverballers have become as iconic as anything in stealth gaming, largely through repetition across two decades.
